Privacy Policy
Beanut · Effective 10 October 2026
Beanut is a personal assistant app. This policy says what Beanut collects, why, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and how to delete it. It matches what the app shows you on its consent screen before anything is sent.
What Beanut collects
- Your account: your email address and a sign-in, through email and password, Sign in with Apple, or Google. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email", Beanut only sees the relay address Apple gives it.
- What you send: messages you type, recordings you make (turned into text), and photos, documents and recordings you attach or share into Beanut.
- What Beanut remembers: facts you ask it to remember. Each one is shown to you when it is kept, and listed under Memory in the app.
- Your conversation: the words of the conversation and the results Beanut showed you. Photos and files are not kept on Beanut's server; their names are.
- What you connect, only if you do: your calendar's private address, or — if you connect your phone's calendar and allow access — its events for the next two months (title, start, end); and contacts you add (a name and a phone number). With access to your phone's contacts, Beanut uploads to its server the names and phone numbers of the people you pick — or of everyone with a number, if you choose all, adding new ones when you open Beanut. Beanut tells you this in the app, and asks you to continue, before anything is uploaded. They are used only to find the person you mean when you ask Beanut to write to someone, so WhatsApp opens straight to them, including for tasks that run while Beanut is closed. Only names are sent to the AI service, never numbers. Nothing else about your contacts is read, and they are never sold or shared. Your phone's calendar events are uploaded the same way, after the same notice, and refreshed when you open Beanut.
- Tasks you schedule, and their results until you open them.
- Your time zone, so that "tomorrow" means your tomorrow.
- Your location, only when you choose to attach it to a message.
- How many messages you've sent today, for the daily allowance.
- Device notification address, only if you turn notifications on.
- Service logs: our hosting provider records requests (time, address, status) to keep the service running and secure.
Beanut does not use your data for advertising, does not sell it, and does not track you across other apps or websites.
How it is used
Only to provide the app: to answer you, remember what you asked it to, run the tasks you schedule, notify you when they are done, and keep your account secure. Photos you sent recently are kept on your own device so that you can ask about them again; they are not stored on Beanut's server.
How it is collected
- From you, in the app: your account details when you sign up, and everything you type, say, attach, share into Beanut from other apps, or ask it to remember or schedule.
- From your phone, only with your permission: your calendar events and the contacts you choose, after Beanut's own notice and your phone's permission prompt; your location, only when you attach it to a message; your time zone, sent with each message.
- From Sign in with Apple or Google, if you use them: your email address (or Apple's relay address).
- Automatically: the daily message count, your device's notification address if you turn notifications on, and the service logs described above.
Data shared with a third-party AI service (Google)
Beanut's replies are written by a third-party AI service: Google's Gemini API, provided by Google LLC. Beanut asks for your permission in the app, on a screen that lists what is sent and names Google, before anything is sent. To answer you, Beanut sends Google:
- What you type, and what you say (recordings are transcribed by the same service).
- Photos, documents and recordings you attach or share into Beanut.
- Your location, when you attach it to a message.
- Links you share, which Google opens to read for you, and the web searches Beanut runs for your questions.
- What Beanut has remembered about you, and the conversation so far.
- Your calendar's events, when you ask about your calendar.
- Contact names — never their numbers — when you ask about your contacts or ask Beanut to write to someone.
- Your time zone, and tasks you ask Beanut to do later.
Google uses this data only to produce Beanut's reply: writing the answer, transcribing recordings, reading links and searching the web. Beanut uses the Gemini API under Google's terms for paid services, under which Google processes the data on Beanut's behalf, does not use it to train or improve its products, and protects it under Google's data processing terms — protection the same as or equal to that described in this policy. Beanut does not share your data with any other AI service.
You can withdraw your permission any time in the menu ("Stop sharing with the AI"). Beanut then sends nothing more to Google and stops answering until you agree again; tasks you scheduled arrive as plain reminders instead.
Who else processes your data
| Provider | For |
|---|---|
| Google Cloud and Firebase (Google) | Sign-in, the database, and running Beanut's server, in Singapore; delivering notifications to Android phones (Firebase Cloud Messaging) |
| Google Gemini API | Writing replies, reading links you share, searching the web when you ask, transcribing recordings |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, and delivering notifications to your iPhone |
| Google Sign-In | Signing in with Google, if you choose it |
When you ask Beanut to message someone on WhatsApp, Beanut only opens WhatsApp with the message written; you send it yourself, and WhatsApp's own policy applies there.
How long it is kept
- Memory: until you remove it (up to 200 facts).
- Conversation: until you clear it; the newest 200 messages are kept.
- Calendar address, phone calendar events and contacts: until you remove or disconnect them. Phone events are replaced each time the app syncs them.
- Scheduled tasks: until they have run or you cancel them; results until you open them.
- A pending "yes or no" confirmation: 5 minutes.
- Service logs: up to 30 days.
- Everything above: deleted when you delete your account.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account in the app: Menu → Delete account. Your account and everything Beanut's server keeps about you are deleted, and photos kept on that device are removed.
- Remove single memories, clear the conversation, disconnect your calendar, or remove contacts in the app at any time.
- Withdraw consent to the AI in the menu.
- Turn off notifications, location, microphone and camera in your phone's Settings (on iPhone, Settings → Beanut; on Android, Settings → Apps → Beanut).
- To ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion, email us (below). Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object, to restrict processing, and to complain to your data protection authority.
Security
Data travels encrypted (HTTPS). Only Beanut's server can read the database; the app cannot read other people's data. Secrets are kept in Google's Secret Manager. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you if a breach affects you as the law requires.
Children
Beanut is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If what Beanut sends to the AI changes, the app asks for your permission again before sending anything. We will update the date above when this policy changes.
